One Brave Canadian and Perpetually Wet Boots

So, today was an adventure.

I didn't work until 2:30, and I made myself banana pancakes in the morning.. I actually got at least 9 hours of sleep last night, so.. woo. Anyway, I got on the bus and it started to pour but as quick as it started it stopped and I was glad because it meant I didn't have to walk in the rain to work. But I stopped by the diner and got a sub from Subway because I forgot to make my lunch... But as soon as I went in, it started to pour buckets of water from the sky. I waited for about ten minutes to see if it would clear up, but it didn't and I had to get to work to clock in, so I put on my best 'brave Canadian' face, threw open the door and walked out into the rain in my full costume, boots and backpack.

It wasn't too bad at the beginning but I got out onto the promenade and everyone was running to get out of the rain wearing their disney ponchos, or garbage bags at the very least. Most people were under umbrellas or awnings or inside stores. But I, the brave Canadian, was walking through the sideways rain to get to Canada. There came a point where I felt as if someone was throwing buckets of water at me. Or that perhaps a hurricane was on the horizon. Eventually, I arrived at Canada, passing the people huddled near the restaurant and the people who hid at Kidcot from the rain; all of which laughed as I walked by and said "Welcome to Canada" to which I smiled and laughed and dripped.

My boots squished as I walked. Was it a goldfish I could feel swimming around in the pool of water that was now inside both of my boots?

Fortunately, after about an hour, one of the managers came by and took me back to costuming to get a dry costume... and a poncho, for future rainspells. Unfortunately, there was nothing they could do about my boots.. i just had to wring out my socks and keep my chin up. Man, there was a lot of water in my socks... half a lake even. And that goldfish.

In any case, we had our "sneak preview" for the guests of the movie today and everyone did their new spiels, all of which were shaky, just like we were all newbies again. Kind of nice to see other people tripping up, and not just yourself. But we get to quiz the guests now with questions like "What is the Canadian one dollar coin called?" So that is kind of fun. More guest interaction. And everyone seemed really pleased with the show, so that's good.

What else? I worked Extra Magic Hours until 11:15. That was alright.

It seems like I just got back and now I should go to bed.

Hmm.. why is it that I need 9 hours of sleep? Well, I don't work until 3:15 tomorrow.. so, perhaps I will sleep in. Ah, and the vicious circle continues.

So, officially, my address works. It's in one of the earlier posts, if you want it.

The movie reopens on September 1st. I start work again tomorrow and I probably work for 8-10 days straight again. But I haven't looked at my schedule, so I don't know. But none of them are earlier than 12:30, so at least I get to sleep in a bit this week, as well.

Things are okay here. My new roommate is from Vancouver. She's nice but I haven't really talked to her. I think our personalities clash a bit. She's more of a party person. I am more of a sit at home and drink tea person.

This month I want to go to Florida Mall to go shopping... I want to go to Ghirardelli for ice cream or, alternatively, Beaches and Cream to try "The Kitchen Sink" - which is like 22 scoops of ice cream, two bananas, brownies, sprinkles, angel food cake, a can of whip cream... etc.. I want to go to Panera more for breakfast and lunch and smoothies.. I want to go to Carrabbas with Lee one time... I want to go to DisneyQuest... I want to go to "girls" at least once to see what it's like... I want to eat at Le Cellier and at China one time.. I want to make a passport around the World Showcase and eat a crepe in France.. I want to go to Universal Studios... I guess a lot of these things are just things I want to do before I leave.

The problem with being here is there's a lot of things that I think would be fun to do, but I don't really have anyone to do them with. Everyone I know has different days off and a lot of them are more interested in getting drunk or going clubbing.

I want to come home and go ice skating, and go for walks in the snow and toboggan and make hot chocolate and watch movies and attempt to ski/snowboard.. and bake cookies and cakes and pies and bread... And spend time with my friends and family.

Monsoon Rain and Banana Pancakes

Soooo... working in August when the movie is shut down sucks. It's really boring standing at the front entrance telling people who can't read the signs that, yes, the film is closed and no, you can't go inside even though it's air conditioned and there are benches. Too bad, so sad. But, standing straight in one spot in the heat for several hours is not fun at all. I miss doing spiels in the theatre. At least at Kidcot we can interact more and sit down and colour when it's slow.

Oh well, it rained really beautifully today and I got drenched walking to the bus stop but it was warm and so pretty. I got home and made myself banana pancakes. All in all, a good end to a slow day.

Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Pop Tarts

Well, yesterday and today I had off work...

Yesterday I went to get my social insurance forms filled out... which started at 10 in the morning and we sat on the bus for about 2 and a half hours... so, when I got home I slept for another 2 hours.. after falling asleep on the floor reading a book. Then the roomies got home and we had big plans for a slumber party night. I know, technically, we all live in the same apartment so what is the use of a "sleepover"? Well, it just so happens that we're awesome.

The two roommates that were having the sleepover with me are from Norway and have never had a sleepover party before. So, it was very exciting. We made lasagna and watched Jumanji and made mailboxes for our wall (so that we can leave notes and mail and chocolate bars in them!) And then we pulled down the mattresses and me and Lee slept in the living room.

Today, we woke up and Lee and I went to Publix and I bought lots of excellent things like cinnamon, syrup (for French toast!), and cookie dough pop tarts... couldn't resist, after all they were two for one.. so I got some apple cinnamon ones too. Also, I got banana bread waffles. :) I saw waffles in the shape of lego blocks, but I resisted the urge. Hehe.

I work again until next Thursday and Friday, but I think the movie is getting shut down on Saturday or Sunday.

Well, I'm off to lounge around the pool on the rest of my day off. : )
